Is it not accurate to say that President Trump and the Make America Great Again movement played a role in the demise of the Democratic Party? Exit polls indicated a 15-point swing in favor of Trump among voters earning less than $50,000 annually. It's the first time since the 1960s that a majority of Americans in this income bracket voted Republican.
Mark Penn, the former Clinton pollster, told Sean Hannity on Fox News the other day that essential voter blocs continue to abandon the Democratic Party as it reels from its worst approval rating in modern history.
A CNN/SSRS poll taken from March 6-9 reveals the party's favorability has dropped to a record low of 29%. Penn told Hannity, he's never seen numbers this low in decades.
Mark Penn expressed his astonishment, stating he hadn't witnessed anything like the current situation in his four decades of polling. He highlighted the dramatic drop in the Democratic Party's approval ratings, which plunged from 47% to somewhere around 27% to 29% in recent surveys. According to Penn, this sharp decline reflects a significant loss of support from moderate, working-class voters.
Penn also observed that the party seems to be narrowing its appeal, relying heavily on a core group of left-leaning leaders like Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. Both politicians have been prominent voices in promoting the party's platform across the country.
"These are the very voters (moderate, working-class) the Democratic Party needs to secure victories in elections," Penn commented, suggesting that focusing primarily on the party's progressive base might be contributing to its current challenges.
