On Thursday, President Trump outlined plans to form a task force and a presidential commission aimed at protecting Christians from religious discrimination.
Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., Trump detailed several initiatives to address what he described as ongoing threats to religious liberty, particularly against Christians.
“As long as I’m in the White House, we will defend Christians in our schools, military, government, workplaces, hospitals, and public spaces,” he stated. “Together, we will restore our nation as one under God.”
President Trump has put Christians at the center of his administration. It's created a rift in the Christian Church unlike anything we've seen in the past. Some argue we are "over spiritualizing" the President. Others suggest it's a God-given opportunity to be salt and light to a terribly corrupt federal government.
The biblical conflict almost seems comical when you read the Bible. Joseph advised the pharaoh of Egypt. Daniel was a primary voice in multiple Babylonian and Persian regimes. Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem by leveraging his high-ranking position with King Artaxerxes. Ester and Mordecai prevented the genocide of the Jews in a cunning plot to win the favor of King Xerxes. Ezra, Obadiah, Jeremiah, and Isaiah all were advisors to kings of foreign nations and Israel. Each one of them were used by God to achieve his will.
Trump told attendees at the National Prayer Breakfast that, "America is and will always be one nation under God. At every stage of the American story our country has drawn hope, courage, and inspiration from our trust in the Almighty." He went on to suggest that "God has a special plan and a glorious mission for America."
What do you think?
Should Christians shy away from opportunities to shape national and even international policy?
Does the Ancient of Days want us to engage in the public square, or just retreat into our mega-church fortresses?
How will President Trump accomplish this?
Trump announced the creation of a presidential commission on religious liberty, which he said would be dedicated to safeguarding this fundamental right.
Additionally, he pledged to sign an executive order appointing Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead a task force focused on eliminating anti-Christian bias within the federal government.
He also revealed plans for a White House Faith Office, to be led by Rev. Paula White, a longtime spiritual adviser to Trump.
