Trump is Person of the Year - But Who Really Deserves the Credit?
Time Magazine chose Trump as the Person of the Year, but shouldn't we credit God for giving us a second chance?

Time Magazine has named President-elect Trump as the Person of the Year. But perhaps we should recognize God as the Cosmic Sovereign of the Ages.
As Daniel 2:21 reminds us:
"It is He who changes the times and the epochs;
He removes kings and establishes kings;
He gives wisdom to wise men
And knowledge to men of understanding."
This biblical truth provides perspective on the remarkable election cycle of 2016. Voters selected an outsider to challenge Washington, D.C., and decentralize power in favor of the American people. In his 2017 inaugural address, President Trump declared, "We are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people." He called it the moment when "the people became the rulers of this nation again."
Over the next four years, the Washington establishment resisted fiercely. Secret investigations, leaks, two impeachments, a special counsel, and relentless media attacks defined his presidency. Yet, as one economist observed, "Trump gave us the best economy of our lifetimes." The border was being secured, crime was down, energy prices hit historic lows, wages rose faster than inflation, and no new wars began.
Then, mad scientists entered the fray, either accidentally or intentionally, unleashing a global pandemic—a man-made virus from China that upended the world and turned everything upside down. Trump warned against overreaction, arguing the "cure can't be worse than the disease," but the damage was done. Fear and chaos in 2020 enabled the establishment to reclaim power, with Biden narrowly winning the presidency by 43,000 votes across just three states.
In the early months of his administration, President Biden reversed Trump’s policies through executive orders and record spending. His "Battle for the soul of the nation" became a rallying cry for restoring centralized control in Washington. The results were predictable: the wealthy prospered, the national debt soared, and everyday Americans struggled under an unaffordable economy. Meanwhile, Biden’s foreign policy emboldened adversaries like Russia, China, and Iran, leading to global instability and conflict.
To this day, President Biden continues to brag about his efforts to “Build Back Better.”
In response to public dissent, the administration pushed a censorship agenda, pressuring social media platforms to silence opposition voices—even deplatforming former president Trump. Draconian mandates damaged children’s education, public trust, and livelihoods, led to more deaths from COVID, possibly from the vax… while those in power flourished.
Yet through it all, God’s hand was at work. Why? Because He answers the prayers of the faithful. As the Creator, Sustainer, Eternal Lightbearer, and Timeless Leader, His reign transcends all earthly powers:
Creator of All Things: "Everything was made through Him, and nothing was made without Him" (John 1:3).
Sustainer of Life: In Him is life itself, the breath of existence and the light that gives meaning to humanity (John 1:4).
Eternal Lightbearer: His light shines in the darkest moments, undefeated and unquenchable, offering hope and redemption to all (John 1:5).
Timeless Leader: "The Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1-2). His kingdom is eternal and unshakable.
For this reason, we should honor God as the Cosmic Sovereign of the Ages.
Perhaps God chose a brash New York billionaire to present us with an "If, then" choice. As citizens, we are the kings and queens of our nation, electing leaders to reflect our values. In His grace, God allowed us to see what works and what fails—a rare gift of clarity.
While Time memorializes Trump as Person of the Year, maybe it’s time to credit God for giving us another chance.
