The Universe Is Fine-Tuned for Your Blood. Leviticus Already Said the Life Is in the Blood.
A physicist says the universe’s basic constants sit in a narrow window, and a shift of just a few percent would leave blood too thick or too thin to sustain life.

A Queen Mary University of London physicist says that if the universe’s fundamental constants shifted by just a few percent, liquids like blood would become too thick or too thin for life to work.
Why it matters: Life depends on liquids flowing at the right thickness, and the universe’s most basic numbers appear to be set within a narrow range that makes that possible.
The big picture: It’s the latest entry on a long list of “just right” settings in physics. The researchers can’t explain why the numbers land where they do.
By the numbers:
A few percent: Shift constants like Planck’s constant or the electron’s charge by about that much, and blood could become too thick or too thin to work.
2 papers: The 2026 ScienceDaily write-up draws on Kostya Trachenko’s peer-reviewed work in Science Advances (2023) and the European Physical Journal E (2025).
0 experiments have changed a fundamental constant. The work is theoretical.
What they’re saying: “If water was as viscous as tar life would not exist in its current form or not exist at all,” Trachenko said.
The other side: Trachenko speculates that the universe’s fine-tuning might come from a process similar to biological evolution. ScienceDaily’s own write-up calls that a conjecture, and there’s no evidence for it yet.
The bottom line: The research ends on a question: why are the laws of nature so well suited to life? Then it reaches for an answer nobody has observed.
THE FAITH CHECK: Romans 1:20 already answered their question: “since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.” This time they found it in the blood. Leviticus 17:11 says “the life of a creature is in the blood,” and now physics says the whole universe had to be set just right for that blood to flow. The deeper we study what God made, the clearer his fingerprints get.
You should probably know: Christians get accused of starting with their conclusion. Harvard biologist Richard Lewontin admitted where his side starts in The New York Review of Books in 1997: “Moreover, that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.”
