Time is running out for TikTok to either shut down or sell the company after the Supreme Court upheld a law passed by Congress and signed by Biden last April.

Most of the conversation revolves around the 1st Amendment rights of an American company. Maybe the more pressing conversation should be that 63% of our children in the U.S. use TikTok on a daily basis?

While there's no doubt China is using the platform to amass untold amounts of data on each and every user for nefarious purposes now, and even in the future. Consider the fact that China does not allow the international version of TikTok to be used within its border, nor any access to U.S. social media platforms.

Yes. China has created the world's largest and most powerful surveillance weapon, and a majority our kids willingly sign up to use it. TikTok surely played a role in promoting Trump over Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

That's what makes TikTok a Pandora's Box. While it entertains and connects us digitally with each other, it simultaneously steals our attention, truncates our ability to think deeply, and gathers data that could be used to blackmail or hack us in the future.

What's next: It appears the Trump administration will facilitate the sale of TikTok to American ownership. While this could mitigate the national security threat, the question remains: will allowing this social media giant to continue operating benefit the nation's conscience?

Should we redeem the Pandora Box that is TikTok?
