In a shocking accident of journalism, The Denver Gazette recounts the human toll of the Biden administration's immigration policies, which critics and even some migrants argue have incentivized illegal immigration.

Gabriel and Ana, who spoke to The Denver Gazette on condition of anonymity, entered the U.S. illegally during the Biden administration. Despite securing low-paying jobs and enrolling their child in public school, they now support President-elect Trump’s calls to close the border and deport individuals who arrived with harmful intentions.

Even some who entered illegally acknowledge the need for stricter immigration policies.

The Biden administration’s lax border enforcement and streamlined asylum processes have fueled an unprecedented surge in illegal immigration.

We kept hearing about how easy it was to cross the border,” Ana said, recalling conversations in 2022. “’My cousin got in,’ ‘This guy got in,’” she explained.

But their experience proved different. “You’ll work a little, you’ll get a house—that’s all lies,” Gabriel added.

When asked about President-elect Trump’s assertion that Venezuela is “emptying their prisons,” Gabriel agreed, noting that some Venezuelans bring a “gangster culture” with them, referring to them as delincuentes—criminals.

The Denver Gazette reports that Venezuela’s government continues to oversee a massive exodus of its citizens. U.S. Border Patrol data shows Venezuelan immigration increased tenfold in 2022 and surged threefold again in 2023, with 334,914 individuals intercepted.
