Vice President Kamala Harris has promised amnesty for the estimated 25 million illegal immigrants currently in the country. In doing so, JD Vance explains how that would turn the United States into a one-party state like California.
"I’m a conservative Republican. But [President Ronald] Reagan screwed up a lot … People don’t talk nearly enough about the amnesty thing … Because of what Ronald Reagan did in the 1986 amnesty, California is now effectively a permanently blue state," says Vance.
To see how illegal immigration is detrimental to legal citizens, you have to understand how Congressional seats are appropriated.
JD Vance continues: "For example, the state of Ohio lost a congressional seat in the last census [in 2020 so] states that have high illegal immigrant populations picked up congressional seats. So you’re actually taking away congressional representation from American citizens and giving it to illegal aliens. Even if you don’t give them the right to vote, you’re still destroying the voting power [of citizens]."
Congressional seats are allocated among the states based on each state’s total population, including illegal immigrants.
I'd like to insert an observation. It took time for Vance to walk through his position. And this is why the Joe Rogan Podcast, and others like it, are so useful. Contrast his three-hour conversation with the hour and a half debates where the "moderators" force the candidates to articulate complex policy in two-minute chunks all while defending allegations made by your opponent. It's one of the reasons why most post-debate conversations are about style and emotion rather than substance. There. I feel better.
