The most important effort to root out waste, fraud, and abuse would be to prevent it. DOGE might be that answer.

We may be so caught up in the hype over DOGE evaluations turning into massive layoffs at bloated government agencies that we miss what will hopefully be its most important achievement - to put into place systems to avoid fraud.

Federal government watchdogs have been uncovering waste, fraud, and abuse before the Department of Government Efficiency. But even in their own reports, they admit the scope of fraud is likely even "more extensive." Finding the fraud is important but consider that now the taxpayers have to foot the bill to fund law enforcement and legal charges against the perps. It costs even more money to bring the the guilty to justice.

That's why DOGE's greatest contribution could be the implementation of new systems that are much more transparent and verifiable with greater checks and balances to prevent the waste, fraud, and abuse from happening in the first place.

PS: Notice in the report below that many of the perps are doctors, nurses, and other licensed professionals.

As reported by Just The News, Last year, the Justice Department announced the 2024 National Health Care Fraud Enforcement Action, bringing charges against 193 total defendants accused of participating in various schemes that resulting in $1.6 billion in government losses, some of which came from Medicare and Medicaid programs. The charges were leveled against “76 doctors, nurse practitioners, and other licensed medical professionals” spread across the United States for the schemes.
