In a video post on X @epaleezeldin EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced the EPA is launching 31 actions to power the "Golden Age of American Success," marking the most significant day of deregulation in U.S. history. The actions will drive energy dominance, reduce costs for Americans and strengthen the U.S. auto industry.
Zeldin pledged to address the backlog of air quality cases, criticizing the Biden administration for prioritizing ideology over the agency’s primary duties. The EPA plans to collaborate with states and tribes to resolve the 685 unresolved State Implementation Plans (SIPs) and Tribal Implementation Plans (TIPs), including 322 overdue cases left unaddressed.
“The Biden Administration’s focus on ideological pursuits instead of the agency’s core mission and statutory duties resulted in a delay of air quality improvement,” the EPA administrator wrote in a statement. “With more than 140 million Americans living in nonattainment areas around the country, cooperative federalism and clearing out the State Implementation Plan backlog will make significant strides to improving the air we breathe.”
