CBN News is reporting that Christians are being slaughtered by Islamic militants likely aligned with the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
In December 2024, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled Damascus as opposition forces, led by the Islamist group Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), seized control of the capital, effectively ending his regime. Following Assad's departure, Ahmed al-Sharaa, a prominent figure within HTS, declared himself interim president in January 2025.
In the ensuing months, reports emerged of sectarian violence targeting various communities, including Christians, in regions previously loyal to Assad. The United Nations documented incidents where entire families, including women and children, were killed in Syria's coastal region as part of the army's sectarian killings against insurgents loyal to Assad. Interim President Sharaa acknowledged these atrocities and vowed to hold all perpetrators accountable, emphasizing that no one is above the law. The new government has initiated investigations into these killings, aiming to bring justice and promote national reconciliation amidst Syria's complex and evolving political landscape.
