From Just the News:
The Trump administration faced legal battles over the president's sweeping orders and criticism of individual judges, prompting a rare public response from Chief Justice John Roberts. Similarly, the Biden administration has come under scrutiny for its alleged involvement in censorship through partnerships with Big Tech. Despite occasional court interventions, concerns about government overreach persist.
According to a report from the Media Research Center (MRC), 90 federal agencies and related entities were connected to 57 distinct censorship initiatives during the Biden years. These efforts included direct actions, policy developments, regulatory measures, partnerships, and funding programs. The MRC's past analysis of alleged bias within the news-rating service NewsGuard also contributed to subsequent congressional and agency investigations.
Though much of this activity occurred out of public view, the MRC urged readers to consider it alongside President Biden’s public remarks that seemingly encouraged censorship. The president has criticized platforms for resisting collaboration with censorship organizations and previously accused Meta, Facebook’s parent company, of endangering lives by failing to remove certain content.
Furthermore, the watchdog group highlighted the lack of accountability, alleging that Attorney General Merrick Garland opted not to pursue legal action against those responsible for censorship. The Department of Justice also reportedly declined to investigate the matter, despite a federal judge's comparison of the administration's actions to an "Orwellian 'Ministry of Truth.'"
