Approximately 20,000 federal employees have agreed to a "buyout" proposal introduced by the Trump administration last week, according to a senior official who spoke with Axios.

Why it’s important: While this represents around 1% of the federal workforce, it falls short of the administration’s initial goal of reducing staff by 5% to 10%.

The offer remains available until Thursday, leaving room for additional participation despite strong resistance from unions and other groups.

It's also notable that the annual attrition rate is 6% of the federal workforce. The legacy media may try to use this to blunt the effectiveness of the administration's effort. But what they won't tell you is that most of those jobs will not be replaced by President Trump. Even more sore, as we've seen with USAID, he is deleting entire agencies and departments. It looks like the Department of Education is next up.
